Domain Registration

What is an IP address?

When receiving web space, this place immediately gets an IP number. IP number is the real address of your web space. It is formed out of four group numbers. For example: 192.34.12.345. The problem with this number is that it is very hard to remember. The solution for this is to attach it a domain name.

What is a domain name?

Domain name is the logical address of your site over the web. It is usually combined of one or more words, so it is much easier to remember then the IP number. Each domain name is associated to an IP address. When typing your site domain address the browser looks for the IP number connected to it.

How do I get a domain name for my site?

In order to get your site a domain name, you would need to register it, at a domain registration company. The best domain registration company we have seen are www.GoDaddy.com which have very cheap prices with great support and services.

What is domain name servers (dns)?

When registering a domain name, you would be asked to give your host domain name servers (dns). This is a typical example of dns:

ns1.hostsname.com
ns2.hostsname.com

In short this is the link from your domain name to your web hosting space. When you got your web hosting space you should have got also your domain name server. Just remember that after entering your domain name server, it takes about of 48 hours for the name server to be fully updated. This process is also known as propogate, or propogating. From our experience it can even take longer. So you have to be patience when editing domain name servers.

How do I know the propogation has been completed?

The best way would be to upload an index.html file to your public directory, and try to visit your site with your domain name. If the result would be seeing your index.html page, the propogation process has been completed.

I have registered a domain name for my site, now what?

You have a domain name. If you still don't have web hosting go over here. Now after your site is online and is accessible for visitors, you would like to get your self some traffic.
