CPM Programs

The next advertising program is CPM, which stands for, Cost per Impressions. This method counts the number certain banner displayed (number of banner impressions), and pays the publisher, fixed rate every time the banner shows up 1000 times. Usually used for banners, pop ups and pop unders.

When should I use CPM?

CPM is good method if you have a general subject site, or you don't know what your visitors are looking for. By placing CPM paying ads you get flat fee rate for every 1000 ad impressions, no matter if the ad interested the visitor, no matter if he clicked over it or not. A good example for using CPM ads is on the home page of web directory, or guide. Placing CPM banner over the homepage is good, because when the visitor comes we know nothing about his interests. Later on, when he clicks over the different categories and sub categories we know what he is looking after, and in that point switching to other advertising programs, such as CPC or CPA, might be better option.

How much would I earn with CPM advertising program?

Because of its nature, and untargeted audience, CPM advertising has traditionally low rates. Usually we are talking about something between 0.4$-0.8$ for banners, and 3$-4$ for pop ups. There are however higher rate CPM'S, but they are kind of rare and run out fast. Now if we have somewhere around 1000 impressions a day, and we have placed one CPM banner, with 0.5$ rate at the end of the day we will end up with 0.5$. You may multiply your revenue by placing a second CPM banner, ending up with 1$ per day for the same traffic amount. Don't forget that other advertising methods (CPC, CPM) would get you nothing if your visitors won't click over them or buy something. 30$ a month may sound low but on general subject site the alternative may be 0$ a month. There is another option we haven't discussed and it’s the pop ups option. As much as we don't like pop ups, and many users find them annoying, pop ups can increase your revenue sharply. Using 1 pop up over the home page is somewhat reasonable. If you get 100 impressions of your home page a day, and your pop up CPM rate is about 4$, you may add your revenue something around 0.4$/day. This brings your total revenue from CPM programs to 1.4$ a day or approximately 45$ a month!
