Making money

How can I make money from my website?

There are two major ways to make money with your website:

  1. Selling – If you have something people want, you can go in that direction and tryto sell your products over the web. You can sell almost everything, from web hosting services, and graphic design to special candles, and mirrors. Remember everything works. You just have to find something people would like to pay for. E-commerce has a lot of different aspects and it's outside the scope of this article.
  2. Advertising – If you don't have anything to sell, or don't want to deal with shipment and ecommerce stuff, this may be your preferable income stream. What basically happens you advertise other sites services over your own one, and for that you get paid.

You can earn from advertising in 2 ways:

  1. Find yourself an advertiser – this may be hard job. However when advertiser does found, you can earn more, cause there are no commissions to third party.
  2. Ad Networks – Ad networks are the middleman between you and the potential advertisers. They do the search for advertisers, instead of you. Each Ad network has it's own "inventory" of advertisers, and their banners. All you have to do after signing up with one of those Ad networks, is justto pickup the banners you would like to appear over your site. Before continuing you should be aware of the fact that some of the big Ad networks do have pre requirements, and doesn't accept every publisher (you and your site) to work with them. Such pre requirements can be: minimum number of uniques, English sites only, US traffic only and more.

In order to better understand the online advertising world, you would have to learn the basic concepts used:

  • Advertiser – The company or site who wish to advertise their products or services, and willing to pay for that.
  • Publisher – The website owner who puts the advertiser banners over his site.
  • Ad network – A company that connects between potential advertisers and potential publishers. For this service they take commission. Usually when working with Ad networks, there are 3 basic ad programs you can choose from: CPC, CPM and CPA.
