Getting traffic

What is traffic?

We will start at the end. Traffic is the overall name concerning, numbers of your site visitors. There are several buzzwords associated with this issue. It would be better for us to understand them before continuing:

  1. Unique visitors- or simply "uniques". This refers to the amount of different visitors you get per period of day/month.
  2. Page impression- When a visitor visits certain page over your site, it is counted as one page impression. If this visitor visits 5 pages (they don't have to be different) over your site it is counted as 5 page impressions. This is usually counted per day or per month.
  3. Hits – A simple internet page may contain several files in it: gif, flash, java applet and more. When you visit certain page over the internet, each file associated with this file (gif, jpeg, flash) produces 1 hit. So if you visit a page with 3 pictures and one flash banner this visit would produce 4 hits. Hits are no longer an important issue in web traffic, however many statistics programs still showing them.
  4. SE – This is the nick name for Search Engines. Search engines use robots to spider the web. SE robots are programs running over the entire web, looking for new sites, and updating old information.
  5. SERP – Search Engine Result Page. This is the result you get when searching after information with search engine.

Now we can continue:
