what is web hosting?

Web hosting is a place over the web (internet), in which you can upload files into it. The files are usually site connected files such as HTML, gif, flash and more. All of these files create a website. As soon as you have uploaded the files to your web space, people can surf over the web and visit your site.

How do I get a web space?

For that purpose you would need the services of a web hosting company. These companies usually have large portions of web space. They divide it to "smaller" parts of web space and sell or give those parts to people who need web space or as it is usually called: web hosting.

What should I look for when searching for web hosting company?

First of all you should decide what you would need: web space, data transfer, script language, databases, all these must be taken into consideration. Don't forget also to think a bit about the near future: Your site may grow in size so you would need more web space. Your traffic may grow so you would need more data transfer, and so on. Secondly, get as much info as you can get about the company you are going to use. Try to find reviews and what other people think about that company. If these are your first steps you would probably need a lot of technical support. Try to test their response to simple emails, or help tickets. This should give you some more information about their support.

After choosing and signing up with one of the web hosting companies, you should get their domain name server(dns). It is usually something that looks like this:

ns1.hostsname.com
ns2.hostsname.com

Write it down, you would need them both later, when would register a domain name.
